The Jalisco State Government and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-HABITAT, interested in improving the quality of life in the cities will award in 2011, for the first time, the HUMAN CITIES, INCLUSIVE CITIES International Award on October 3, which is the commemoration of the United Nations’ chartered World Habitat Day.

 

The award aims to encourage individuals aged 20-26 years and students and/or recent university graduates majoring in fields that are related to the contest to participate via the submission of innovative projects, applicable to urban areas. The purpose is to usher the social and environmentally sustainable development of urban settlements through innovative projects that promote gender equality and improve the quality of live for city dwellers, focusing especially on disadvantaged areas of the population.



The official announcement of this International Award was made on March 15 in the city of Guadalajara. Guests included students, civil organizations, universities, various departments of education from the Mexican Republic as well as other organizations that are directly related to university students majoring in: architecture, urban design, engineering, surveying, environmental studies, geology, cultural development, sustainability, environmental engineering, mechanics, electronics, etc.
